With the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) set to close in March 2026, we’ve been reflecting on the difference it’s made and how we can build on its success in the months ahead.
At Shropshire Green Energy Centre, GBIS has been a real success story. We’ve seen first-hand the impact it’s had for households across our region and beyond, helping families make their homes warmer, more comfortable, and cheaper to heat. We’ve successfully installed insulation measures in homes delivering real savings on energy bills and improving efficiency ratings where it matters most.
As the scheme enters its final phase, we’re pushing to get even more applicants through the door so that as many households as possible can benefit before it ends. There’s still time for eligible homeowners and tenants to take advantage, and our team is here to make the process quick and stress-free. Naturally, GBIS has thrown up its own issues, from delivery schedules to quality assurance, but overall it’s had a material effect. For lots of families, it’s been the beginning of the journey to a more affordable home.
Looking ahead, we hope future schemes continue this momentum, moving towards whole-home retrofit solutions, stronger installer support, and long-term policy stability that allows the industry to plan, invest, and deliver at scale.
GBIS has demonstrated what can happen when expertise and funding meet. As its time comes to an end, our emphasis is on ensuring that all qualified homes who would benefit, do.
