At Shropshire Green Energy Centre, we know that many businesses want to do more to reach net zero – but cost is often the biggest barrier. Earlier this month, that was made clear at the recent Congress of Business event during Glasgow Climate Week, where 62% of business leaders said financial pressure is the main thing holding them back from making progress on sustainability.
Over 400 business leaders from around the world came together to discuss how we can grow the economy while also tackling climate change. The message was clear: companies see climate action as a chance to innovate, with 91% saying it’s already driving new ideas in their industries. But many also said they’re not getting enough support or advice on how to move forward – and 78% feel there’s a lack of help when it comes to cutting their carbon footprint.
The good news? 84% believe that investing in green technology could bring new opportunities for their business. The potential is there – but we need better access to funding and clearer guidance to make it happen.
The Congress of Business, supported by organisations like the University of Glasgow, Barclays, and E.ON, is all about turning sustainability talk into action. As Stuart Patrick from Glasgow Chamber of Commerce put it, “Businesses want to do more – but they need the right support to grow in a greener economy.”
That’s exactly the kind of change we support at Shropshire Green Energy Centre.
