Case Study: Full Home Renewable Energy Upgrade

Project Overview:

Our customer wanted to future-proof his rural home against rising energy bills while reducing his carbon footprint. His goal wasn’t just to save money — he wanted his home to be more self-sufficient and sustainable.

After working with Shropshire Green Energy Centre, the customer opted for a comprehensive renewable energy upgrade: solar PV to generate electricity, battery storage to maximise self-consumption, and an air source heat pump with a hot water cylinder to provide low-carbon heating and hot water.

Installation Features

Solar PV & Battery Storage

  • 8 Jinko 440W monocrystalline panels (3.52 kWp) installed on the main south-west roof.
  • Tigo optimisers fitted to maximise performance across the array.
  • InstaGen 1ph 3.68kW hybrid inverter paired with an InstaGen 5.12kWh battery, allowing Steven to store and use solar energy even after sunset.

Heating & Hot Water

  • A Riello NXHM 010 Air Source Heat Pump was installed to replace reliance on fossil-fuel heating.
  • The system was coupled with a new hot water cylinder, ensuring reliable and efficient heating and domestic hot water supply.
  • Together, this solution reduces our customer’s reliance on oil or gas, cutting running costs and emissions.

Homeowner Benefits:

  • Lower Bills: Solar generation + battery storage reduce electricity bought from the grid.
  • Clean Heating: The Riello air source heat pump provides efficient, renewable heating and hot water.
  • Energy Independence: With generation, storage, and low-carbon heating, Steven’s home is far less exposed to rising energy costs.
  • Future-Proof Home: All systems are compliant, expandable, and built to last.
  • Carbon Savings: Steven has significantly cut his household’s carbon footprint by moving away from fossil fuels.

Customer’s Comments

“The work carried out by the heating team, the solar team and plumber was very good. Comparing last year’s bills, I feel they will go down this year due to the work done. I would give the team 10/10.”Steven Parry
